A black teenager from Detroit is running away from police, gets hit by a car, and knocked unconscious into Charleston, South Carolina 1822, where everyone thinks he’s a runaway slave. He finds himself caught up in the Denmark Vesey Rebellion, helping another slave win over a girl and finding that breaking the rules has a whole different meaning back then than now.
