Donald Olson’s The California Garden Tour: The 50 Best Garden to Visit in the Golden State sparked my interest in visiting the Sunnylands Center in Rancho Mirage, CA.
My visit, to the Center, Sunday, May 16th did not disappoint.
The former home of Walter and Leonore Annenberg from the 1950s to the early 1980s, with its modern architecture and interior décor, made it an international showpiece for modern contemporary design.
Today it is a non-profit center hosting retreats, meetings, and public grounds/garden viewing.
It’s sometimes called the Camp David of the West because it has hosted former presidents and visiting foreign leaders over the past 60 years. This historic site offers an outstanding representation of a desert garden.
